1. Installation

Here is a root structure displaying where each file should go.
.. UT2004 folder

--- System
	TacticalShadows.u
	TacticalShadows.ini
	TacticalShadows.ucl
	Tactical Shadows Readme.txt

Run UT2004, and from the Mutators list select Tactical Shadows and select a map to play on - preferably one with lots of dark parts and shadows!

2. Tactical Shadows.. something to do with shadows and tactics?

That's right. You might be familiar with Bright Skins, which makes all the player models unnaturally bright so hardcore hitscan players make sure they can always see their enemies from afar. Even without Bright Skins, UT2004's player models are very bright ingame so that you can be clearly seen even if you are in complete shadow.

What Tactical Shadows does is make gameplay a little more interesting by removing the garish and stupidly bright lighting on the player models, meaning that you can now gain an advantage on your enemies by hiding in dark areas. UT2004's lighting is sometimes picky about how visible the model is, but if you have a hard time seeing yourself in an area with behindview (F4) then chances are your enemy will have an even harder time finding you.

Bot support is included with this release, and can be toggled on and off in the config menu. When on, each human player will receive a message when he/she is hiding in a dark area and cannot be seen by bot AI. However, this will only work if the bot has not previously seen or heard the player.

The mutator of course works online. If you wish to run the mutator on your server, it would be advisable to add TacticalShadows to ServerPackages, and a typical command line would be:

ucc server DM-Deck17?mutator=TacticalShadows.MutTacticalShadows

3. Who made this? How can I contact them?

Parser made this small mutator, and if you worship at the shrine of Bright Skins you can flame him at http://fraghouse.beyondunreal.com

Enjoy!
